When AOM Driver is bad:
AOM Driver is the most sensitive part in the system. Thousands of AOM Drivers is being replaced every year. This is one of the most profitable device for every Spar parts reseller. In Service Manuals Noritsu called this part Signal processor, but it is just a high frequency amplifier. Let me say Signal already has been 'processed' before to arrive to AOM Driver. High enough stable temperature must be maintained inside AOM Driver to let it work properly. This why every device equipied by heater and cooling fan. Basic problems of AOM Drivers coould be splitted on three parts:
- 1. Failure to maintain stable temperature
- 2. Overheating and as result burned semiconductors
- 3. Bad contact, short circuit, contact bounce, bad ground, radio frequency interferences etc, which cause unexpected interruptions or distortions of the signal.
There are three AOM Drivers in Noritsu Laser units up to QSS35 series. Then modulation becomes internal feature of the semiconductor Laser guns - first Red, then also Blue (QSS37 series). In new models AOM Driver is used only for SHG (second harmonic generation) Laser guns (now only for Green). Then let me say only about common units QSS30-34 series with three AOM Drivers. Each device is used for the pair of colors (positive and negative). Blue channel is responsible for Blue and Yellow. Red channel is responsible for Red and Cyan (sky blue). Green channel is responsible for Green and Magenta (cold red, purple). If during the day or on the same print colors shift between the opposite colors and Daily Setup could not eliminate this problem, most likely appropriate AOM Driver is bad.
What happened on the prints when one of AOM Driver must be replaced:
To assure that one of AOM Driver needs to be replaced, Noritsu advised to swap AOM Drivers pair by pair and look on the difference on the prints. After that you can analyze results and figure out which one is bad.
